THE NEW LATINO MOVEMENT MOBILIZES TO HELP HAITI

"In times of great challenge in our country and around the world, Americans have always come together to lend a hand and to serve others and to do what's right."
~ President Barack Obama, January 16, 2010 ~

One year ago, the founders of the New Latino Movement came together to respond to President-Elect Barack Obama's call for community service events to be held in the weekend leading up to his Inauguration--a weekend that also happened to be Martin Luther King Day. We planned a Pre-Inauguration Latino Political Training Day in Washington, D.C., where we convened a wonderfully motivated group of experts, leaders and 100 community organizers from 18 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Now, a year later, we've held a series of great events and are proud to see that our network of progressive Latinos and supporters has grown to include over 1,000 people from 32+ states. To mark our one year anniversary, the spirit of the historic Inauguration that brought us together and the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, we hope you'll join us in coming together again to respond to an important call to action.

Following the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti, the New Latino Movement and many in our network are finding creative ways to help the people of Haiti.
